Cuban Fury

Frost’s genial onscreen presence and surprisingly nimble dancing somewhat make up for the story’s lack of ambition or originality.

Nick Frost (Shaunof the Dead, Hot Fuzz) is handed his own starring vehicle in this lighthearted British comedy.

When Bruce Garrett was 13, his salsa dancing skills were the talk of the town, and he was all set to win the UK junior championships until a freak incident robbed him of his confidence.

Now, the adult Bruce is an overweight and unhappy office worker. But when a beautiful American boss (Rashida Jones) joins his company, Bruce decides to don the sequins once more and dazzle her with his moves on the dancefloor.

Critics have largely agreed that Frost’s genial onscreen presence and surprisingly nimble dancing somewhat make up for the story’s lack of ambition or originality.

“Overall, it’s just enough to send the date-movie crowd home with a smile on their face and a tingle of joy in their heart,” said Charles Gant of Variety.

“Busts a few minor moves, but not as light on its feet as it wants to be,” said Sheri Linden of The Hollywood Reporter.

Cuban Fury currently has a 52% rating on rottentomatoes.com and a 6.3/10 rating on imdb.com.
