Reinventing ourselves is the only way to live in alignment with our values, which can help us grow. I have reinvented myself many times, setting short-term goals and trying to achieve them.
Studies have shown every few years reinventing yourself can improve brain’s cognitve abilities, overall well-being, and longevity. Here are a few ways how we can reinvent ourselves:
1. Decide what you want and concentrate on your goals: Picture yourself in five years, following the trajectory your life is on right now, and have a clear vision of where you want to be porofessionally and personally. Your life will not change unless you change. Everyone wishes they would have done more, be more but when it comes to doing it, many of us keep postponing it. Don’t postpone your ambition, time is short, life is short. Before you know it, your youth is gone as you will find yourself in your early to mid-30s with no success in your hand. It’s beautiful to hear the word, it’s never too late to start, but once the prime time is gone, it gets only more difficult to adopt a certain lifestyle that requires for success.
2. Invest money and efforts to a six- months plan: This is where it gets real. It’s a short-term plan where you are not only investing mentally but also financially. Financial investments push you to act faster and more sincerely. Six months is also a short span, which means your attention span would probably not divert and you would have a bull’s eye focus on your goal. A goal without a deadline is nothing but a wish. Most people underestimate the results six months of focus and discipline can bring into one’s life. It’s remarkable.
3. Choose growth over complacency: Change is never easy, your body and mind don’t feel right with change. It wants to go back to the familiarity. Sometimes you may doubt yourself for the uncertainty of an unfamiliar territory. For example, if you don’t take any risks in life and are happy living a normal comfortable living, how on earth will you find the treasure? How would you discover your strength and weakness? How would you know what’s your margin for the struggle?
The younger you adapt yourself to taking risks in life for business or personal choice, the better you get at it with time. It’s okay to fail a few times, but not taking any risks will guarantee an ordinary life with very little success. No matter how silver-spooned you are, push yourself and embrace failure. Failure makes you, the let-down is only temporary. A few bad business deals will teach you more than most business schools.
Last but not the least: It’s never too late to reinvent yourself. I have clients in their late 50s and early 60s who come for their complete image and etiquette transformation. And I am amazed at their resilience, dedication and perseverance. They teach me it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. And I am fortunate to have witnessed it so many times in life.
