Australian hard-hitter Chris Lynn came agonisingly close to hitting a 100 in the most abridged form of the game, in the Aldar Properties Abu Dhabi T10 League. But he was left stranded with nine runs short of that magical figure.
In the run-up to the competition, the Queenslander was released by IPL franchise the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of auction next month.
And that development was not lost on former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. India's 2011 World Cup hero, a teammate of Lynn at the Maratha Arabians, remarked in jest that he would send KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan a text.
After watching Lynn blitz his way to a 30-ball 91, Yuvraj said: "Unbelievable. I was actually talking to the guys and how the game has evolved. Guys are getting close to scoring a hundred in a T10 now.
"So, it is amazing how the game has changed over the years. Chris was outstanding, unbelievable hits. He's someone I've seen in the IPL, he has given some great starts to KKR. I really don't understand how they didn't retain him. I think that's a bad call. Must send SRK a message on that."
And while it may have seemed the perfect riposte from Lynn, the man himself said that he didn't hold any grudge.
"Look, I've have got really good relationship with the KKR owners and support staff and head coach and there is no hard feelings at all. More importantly is keeping that relationships nice and strong. Players out there are twice as good as me who have been released from franchises.
"At the end of the day, KKR want to win the tournament and that is the first and foremost priority for Brendon McCullum. The auction is coming up so if I happen to score a few more runs and be fresh in the mind of some coaches, then I think that is a definite positive," explained Lynn.
