In the last quarter-finals on Wednesday night, Dulsco SC, opting to bat first struggled to put on 94 for the loss of eight wickets. Wings XI reached the victory target in the 16th over losing four wickets.
The tournament is being organised by Dulsco SC under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council and played at the Zabeel Park Cricket Ground.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Dulsco began badly losing their opener Rameez for no score. The other opener, Asghar, also did not last long and departed at 13 with his individual contribution of four runs after facing eight balls.
The hosts then never recovered from the early setback and lost wickets at regular intervals. Although Shamash Din tried to revive the innings with an unbeaten 36, wickets kept on tumbling at the other end and Dulsco failed to produce a good total to defend.
Sajid and Amir contributed 11 each and Ghulam scored 10 for the hosts with the remaining batsmen not making it to the double-digit scores. Usman M was the pick of the bowlers for Wings XI claiming three wickets for 25 runs. Abdullah bagged two for 17. Gopal, Zahir and Sajad Ali picked up one each whilst conceding eight, 20 and 23 runs respectively.
Chasing a relatively easy target, Wings XI reached the target in 15.4 overs losing four wickets.
Opener Rizwan Amanat gave the winners a brilliant start making 33 from 26 balls, He belted one six and tow fours but was unfortunately run out by Gurvinder.
Although Wings XI lost three more wickets Sajad A and captain Neeraj Ramamurthy did not allow any more hiccups and saw them through in the fourth ball of the 16th over.
Neeraj hit and unbeaten 10 while Sajad was not out on 19. Earlier, Iftikar contributed 12 and Mudasir nine as Ashfaq failed to score. Ghulam, Gurvinder and Amir picked up one wicket each whilst conceding 20, 25 and 30 runs respectively. Sajad Ali of Wings XI won the Merlin man of the match award for his 19 runs and one wicket.
Wings XI will now meet Almasa IT Distribution while Merlin CC play Carfare Dubai in the semi-finals scheduled for August 16. The final is slated for August 18.
