Imagine a firm acting like a strict parent, setting all the rules and watching the clock
34-year-old Wessels, once ranked in the top 70 players in the world, beat Omar Behroozian 6-1, 7-6 on Court One at the International Tennis Centre.
Local hero Behroozian showed great spirit to win the first three games of the second set but, in the end, Wessel’s powerful serve and craft at the net in the decisive tie-break were too much for the UAE player who has now been defeated by the Dutchman in the last three finals in which the two have met.
PSS-Emirates coach Wessels was also helped by the partisan ‘home’ crowd - the PSS-Emirates team are based at Zayed Sports City.
Behroozian also picked up an award, winning the men’s doubles with partner Dale Fawcett. The ladies title was won by Magali De Lattre, who beat Dragana Zaric in a gripping final. An awards ceremony after the finals brought to a close a fantastic two weeks of tennis at Zayed Sports City during which time 495 players, from 7-year-olds to open age, competed in the UAE’s biggest amateur tennis event.
