Vinay Tolani and Porush Jhunjhunwala played stellar roles in Zabeel Mammoths emphatic nine wicket win over Shindagha Mammoths in the Dubai Cricket Council's 10th edition of the League of Mammoths at the Sevens ground in Dubai.
Jebel Ali Mammoths are the new entrants joining Jumeirah Mammoths, Nad Al Sheba Mammoths, Zabeel Mammoths, Shindagha Mammoths and Nakheel Cricket Club.
Put into bat Shindagha were all at sea from the word go. After Ranjeet Chavan and Sunil Gagwani ripped the top order with two wickets each it was Vinay Tolani's turn to rattle them with three wickets and leave Shindagha reeling on 35 for 7.
Thanks to the tail which wagged as Kapil Gandhi (45) and Sid Ramchandani (45) repaired the damage to some extent and took their team to a decent 142.
Later Sandeep Gopinath (43 from 47 balls, 4x4), Porush (54 not out from 57 balls, 5x4) and man of the match Tolani (36 not out from 20 balls, 1x6, 4x4) took Zabeel home in 19.2 overs.
In another match the father-son duo of Shiva Pagarani and Darshan Pagarani sealed Jumeirah Mammoths three wicket win over Nad Al Sheba Mammoths.
Man of the match Shiva's impressive bowling figures of four wickets for 14 runs was well complemented by his son Darshan who scalped three for 23 to bundle out NAS for 161.
But the NAS bowlers made it difficult for Jumeirah and at one stage had them 46 for 5. Sandeep Raina (45) and Nitin Bharathan (37) added 68 crucial runs to keep Jumeirah afloat.
They were still behind the asking rate but Sheridan Hadfield threw caution to the wind with an aggressive unbeaten 42 from 20 balls (2x6, 5x4) including a last ball six and with help of Pradeep Hegde (11 not out from 8 balls, 1x6) they saw Jumeirah home on the last ball.
Brief scores: Jumeirah Mammoths beat Nad Al Sheba Mammoths by 3 wkts. NAS 161 all out in 24.2 overs (Rejee Mohan 45, Chetan Sharma 32; Shiva Pagarani 4-14, Darshan Pagarani 3-23) Jumeirah 167 for 7 in 25 overs (Sandeep Raina 45, Nitin Bharathan 37, Sheridan Hadfield 42 n.o.; Muzammil Riyaz 3-28).
