Rameez Shahzad remained unbeaten on 121 to power UAE to an exciting four-wicket victory against Scotland in the last match of the Tri-series on Tuesday. Ireland have already been crowned as the champions of this tri-series after scoring four straight victories - two against hosts UAE and two against Scotland.
After winning the toss, Scotland elected to bat first and were quickly in trouble after their opener Michael Leask was dismissed by UAE paceman Mohammad Naveed for just 15 runs. The next to go was Matthew Cross after being caught and bowled by UAE captain Rohan Mustafa. Cross had blasted 107 in the first match of this series against UAE but could face only 14 balls to score 12 runs.
Scotland opener and captain Kyle Coetzer then led from the front as he and Richard Berrington added 84 runs for the third wicket. Coetzer scored 75 runs off 79 runs with 13 boundaries before falling to Mustafa. Berrington was in hot form as he blasted 90 runs off 95 balls and his inning was ended by Naveed as Scotland posted a challenging score of 299 for nine
Hosts UAE too lost wickets early when they stared the chase but recovered well to reach the target with five balls to spare and record their first win in the tri-series with Shahzad being the hero. Shahzad faced 115 balls for his 121 and had 10 boundaries and two sixes. Earllier, opener Ashfaq Ahmad put UAE on the path to victory after he blasted eight boundaries and two sixes to score 92 off 87 balls.
In between Ghulam Shabber (17) and Shaiman Anwar (5) were dismissed cheaply but Adnan Mufti scored a timely 38 to put the innings back on track. Thereafter it was Shahzad's turn to take the match away from Scotland.
