Aaron Jones' knock of 95 run and left-arm medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar's five-wicket haul helped the United States to a three-wicket win over the UAE in the opening match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts, deciding to bat first, lost wickets at regular intervals as they were bundled out for 202 in 45.2 overs in a match reduced to 47 overs due to the wet conditions prevalent owing to rains on Saturday.
Apart from opening batsman Chirag Suri's knock of 46 and Muhammad Usman's unbeaten 59, the hosts were kept under a tight leash by the US bowlers.
Netravalkar, who accounted for the last four UAE to fall, finished off with brilliant figures of five wickets for 32 in 9.2 overs.
In reply, the US lost a couple of early wickets with just four runs on the board. Xavier Marshall and Aaron, who was later named the man-of-the match, put up a cautious 78-run third wicket partnership before Marshall was ruled out for obstructing the field.
Undeterred by the incident Aaron continued to pile on the runs along with Akshay Homaraj (14) and Ian Holland (19).
With just seven runs from victory, Aaron finally perished five runs off a well deserved century when he was caught by Waheed off Zahoor's bowling. Karima Gore remained unbeaten 26 to help the US seal victory.
