Abu Dhabi — Godolphin Racing landed a winner, three second places and a third place finish in races around the world over the two days.
The newcomer Bueller won in Chantilly, France, while Careless and Distraught, both John O’Shea’s charges, were second in Canterbury and Sale in Australia. Heroism was third, also at Canterbury. Song of Shadows finished second in Leicester, UK.
Saddled by Andre Fabre, Bueller clinched what was a close Prix de Mont I’Eveque, which was run over seven furlongs.
Bueller stayed in touch and was placed fourth but not quick enough to take the lead. The two-year-old increased the pace with a furlong left to go and then jockey Mickael Barzalona asked more from him.
Bueller responded by taking the lead with 50 yards remaining to edge out the Yannick Fouin-trained Salerno. The sire of Medaglia d’Oro from Cheeky Charm, Beuller won on a short neck for his first victory in his second start.
He had finished fourth on debut in the Prix d’Orgemont (Maiden) (Unraced 2yo Colts & Geldings), also at Chantilly, earlier this month.
Dik’Henriteladit was two and a half lengths behind the Maxime Guyon-ridden Salerno, in third.
Meanwhile, Careless, the sire of Exceed and Excel from Insouciance, missed out on a third win in 15 starts, when he finished second to Marenostro, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Tye Angland. Trained by John O’Shea and the ride of Brodie Loy, Careless went wide and took the lead after one furlong before moving on the inside and close to the rail. The three-year-old Gelding kicked one length clear one and a half furlongs out.
But he was under pressure heading into the 100 yards and didn’t quite have the legs at the finish and ended half a length behind Marenostro. Just As Cosmic, trained by Jason Coyle and the ride of Kathy O’Hara.
John O’Shea’s Distraught was second in the Eastcoast Home Timber & Hardware Bm70 Handicap. The three-year-old filly of Domesday from Hallucinates, threatened early on and chased the leading pair from three furlongs out.
Running after 108 days, Distraught, piloted by Patrick Moloney, came wide into the straight but couldn’t increase the pace as leader Smokin’ Al cruised to a victory by ¾ lengths. Longchamp Belle, trained by Jason Warren and ridden by Michael Dee, was third.
Song of Shadows, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, finished second in the Osbaston Maiden Stakes.
O’Shea’s Heroism, with Winona Costin on board, was third in the Cellarbrations Plate.
