Abu Dhabi — New Medical Centre were beaten twice in two days, leaving them doubtful of advancing beyond the group stage of the Ace-Pan Global Group Ramadan Twenty20 Cup.
They lost to Al Faraa by 35 runs in the opening night and went down in the last ball to Multiplex in the tournament conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council at the Zayed Cricket Stadium over the weekend.
Hafeez ur Rehman took three wickets, while Babar Bashir and Mujahid Amin grabbed two each to skittle out NMC for 121, in reply to Al Faraa’s 157 for seven in the five-team Group C opener.
The following day, they fell to a last-ball four from Ahmed Shaukat when defending a score of 130. Multiplex required six from the last over bowled by Saqib Ali, the UAE international. They took five singles and Shaukat pulled the final delivery to the mid-wicket fence.
Saqib Ali, who travels with the UAE national team for the ICC World T20 Cup Qualifier in Ireland on Monday, made scores of 41 and 30 in the two matches.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Etihad Airways got their campaigns off to winning starts in Group D.
Rizwan Amanat and Shadab Ahmed took six wickets between them to send Environment Agency crashing to 60 all out. ADCB knocked off the winning runs in 6.4 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Jawad Qazi removed three top order batsmen and Kabir Khan grabbed three middle order batters to skittle out Punjab Lions to 114 all out in reply to Etihad’s 146.
