Delayed? No problem; Samsung just won't 'fold'.
The South Korean conglomerate flaunted its much-hyped Galaxy Fold device to select media at the company's Dubai offices on Wednesday, able to rectify user issues in a relatively short span of time.
The Galaxy Fold was announced in February this year and was originally slated for an April 26 release. But four days before that, the company announced that it was delaying it to make a number of improvements, based on critiques from a highly-select group of reviewers and VIPs.
Some months after, Samsung is now very confident about its newest offering that is part of a new wave of next-generation devices: It is among a number of companies that have already launched or are planning to roll out a foldable device, a group that includes LG, Oppo, Xiaomi, Motorola and, most notably, Huawei with its Mate X.
When folded, the Galaxy Fold has an external 4.6-inch screen. Unfolded, it reveals the Galaxy Flex display, hiking the screen up at 7.3 inches, giving you up to 1.4 times more view than the Galaxy Note10+. It also allows a user to multitask with up to three windows, all working independently.
It also has six high-end cameras: Three on the rear and one up front when folded, and two more inside when unfolded.
It also comes in a custom-built box; inside the package are a premium casing and free Galaxy Buds wireless headsets.
For a more personal touch, it also comes with a special welcome note from Samsung. Customers will receive VIP service, such as a dedicated hotline for any issues and a pick-up and drop-off service if repairs are needed.
The pre-order period will be from October 6 to 16. In-store availability will be announced at a later date. A 5G version is also available - though it is unclear if this will be offered in the UAE.
The Fold's UAE price will be announced on October 6. Currently, it is $2,000, or roughly Dh7,300. Khaleej Times projects a UAE price tag of Dh7,399, given that Samsung's pricing for the country doesn't go far from its dollar terms, based on its previous devices.
