Summer's officially here, and instead of letting your children be couch potatoes at home, have them learn something new or hone their skills further.
Apple on Thursday announced that its Summer Camp is now open for registration, continuing the company's drive of educating youngsters on the benefits of technology and what it can contribute to their future.
The Apple Summer Camp will be held at the tech giant's three hubs in the UAE - those in The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Abu Dhabi's Yas Mall - and will be held from July 10 to 28. The thrice-daily, 90-minute sessions are aimed to broaden children's creative horizons through various activities, guided by experts and using Apple products.
This year, three topics are in tow.
'Creating Characters and Composing Music' will teach kids to create their own stories through drawings and sounds, sketching characters and scenes with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, after which they would explore the basics for composing a track using GarageBand and add vocals.
In 'Stories in Motion with iMovie', they will be able to explore the creative process of turning their ideas into real movies. The three-day session will teach campers how to brainstorm and storyboard and get hands-on movie-making techniques like learning camera angles and editing with iMovie.
'Coding Games and Programming Robots, meanwhile, will introduce programming through interactive play. Children will learn visual-based coding by solving puzzles with Tynker, learn how to program Sphero robots and even create stories starring Sphero as the main character.
On the last day, campers will share their projects with their peers, family and friends.
In addition to Apple Summer Camp activities, Today at Apple is also offering weekly Kids Hour and daily How To sessions designed to spur imagination and creativity as kids will explore coding, storytelling, illustration, movie making, music and more.
Sessions offered include 'Kids Hour: Creating Music with GarageBand', which celebrates music by teaching kids how to create tunes and beats using GarageBand on iPad; 'Kids Hour: Making Movies Together', which is dedicated to exploring creativity through movie-making for both kids and parents; and 'How To Get Started with Coding', a new session in which kids explore coding concepts and get hands-on with the same code professional developers use every day.
