The three-day event held at Sakhir Airbase under the Royal patronage and attracted some regional and international companies. Abu Dhabi Airports Company, or ADAC, chalet in the air show attracted a large number of visitors. The King of Bahrain, His Majesty Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, visited the chalet on Thursday and took keen interest in various projects of the company.
His Majesty was received by Saif Al Mazrouei, ADAC Chairman’s Office Manager, Yusuf Al Jowder, Head of Terminal Operation, ADAC; Mohamed bin Rashd Al Mualla, Stakeholder and Corporate Relationship Manager, SCADIA, and Ahmed Al Haddabi, Senior Vice-President of Airport Operations.
Senior Vice-President of Airport Operations, Ahmed Al Haddabi also presented ADAC’s new project, the Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The complex will be the largest terminal building in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
British defence and aerospace company BAE Systems also took part in the exhibition and displayed some of its most innovative technologies in the form of full size replicas of MANTIS and HERTI, its autonomous unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and a full size replica of the Eurofighter Typhoon, one of the world’s most advanced multi-role/swing-role combat aircraft.
Simon Keith, Managing Director — Middle East, Africa & Asia Pacific for BAE Systems, said, “I would like to congratulate the people of Bahrain on the success of the inaugural Bahrain International Air Show.”
“The air show has provided the kingdom with a platform for companies in the aviation sector to showcase innovations and share expertise,” he said.
The Royal Bahraini Air Force, or RBAF, Hawks thrilled visitors with their spectacular military aviation flying display each day during the Airshow.
The RBAF took delivery of an initial order of six Hawk Mk129 Advanced Jet Training Aircraft from BAE Systems in 2006 to meet its future requirements to train its frontline pilots and develop an indigenous military flying training capability, said the BAE Systems’ spokesperson.
The two-seat, single-engine Hawk is one of the world’s most successful advanced training aircraft, outperforming and outselling all other aircraft in its class, having been sold to 19 customers worldwide. The Kingdom of Bahrain is the fifth user of Hawk aircraft in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
