The recent survey by YouGov rightly captured the anxieties of parents today (UAE parents worried about what their kids watch online; KT, Sept 3). Raising kids in this digital age, it is hard to keep a tab on them and their online lives. Everything is on the internet. Right from their infant years, a lot of parents use the interactive and dynamic world of the internet to educate and entertain their children. I know of many who use YouTube as an educational tool. But as children grow up, they get eager to explore the vastness of digital platforms on their own.
Parents can play an important role in guiding children and warn them about virtual dangers, but there'll always be risks. Constantly talking to children could be helpful.

-I understand the importance of using tablets for teaching at schools, but I am a little wary of its unsupervised use. We as parents can keep a tab on children when they are at home. Likewise, teachers can do so in schools. But what about the time when children are not in schools or at homes, when they are commuting. I think, schools should keep the tabs at schools in lockers, and not allow children to use it outside school premises

-The recent case of Dubai Police rescuing more than 10 children from extortion on multi-player video game (Dubai Police save children from extortion on Fortnite; KT, Sept 6) was shocking. We appreciate the move by the Dubai Police, and also the mother who informed the police. We are responsible for our children. This case shows if children are comfortable talking to their parents, parents can save them from any harm. I urge parents to spend more quality time with their children. It will strengthen their bond and parents will also have a good understanding of what's going on in their child's life.
