The Indian banking system has evolved rapidly and use superior technology. However, form filling is still needed for first time users, or users who wish to get their shares digitalised. Perhaps, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) could have gone online for these forms, too. But I would like to ask the author of A brush with the great Indian bureaucracy (KT, Oct 27), which jurisdiction in the world, including the UAE, would accept a document that carries a misspelt name? There is no point blaming the bank officials in India or the system that is robust and has several checks and balances in place to make it foolproof. What stopped the author from correcting his name in the Dewa bill? I agree, Dubai is an outstanding city and the UAE has exemplary systems in place that have made life so much easy. However, comparing Indian systems with it didn't seem right.

I think it is unfair to compare Emirates ID with Aadhar system in India. Firstly, Emirates ID has been linked with virtually all kinds of services in the UAE, but Aadhar on the other hand is not. Secondly, the Indian banking system is vulnerable to cybercrime and terrorism and therefore there are several layers of security to protect users like us from fraud or harm. Residential address proof is mandatory and the bank officials were right in insisting for it. Know Your Customer norms in India are in line with the best international practices. I don't think, filling up a few forms should feel like a chore.
