Who: Poonam Chauhan
What: Senior Brand Manager, Gaudi, Italia
What is the first work-related thing you think of when you wake up?
I visualise how I can make this day meaningful and special. Each day, I promise myself that I will be more productive at work.
I believe in, “Choose a job that you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. I work in a fast-paced fashion centric industry, which is dynamic and ever changing. On a daily basis, I aim to create unforgettable fashion experiences for all Gaudi, Italia clientele. In my dual role as a Buyer and Senior Brand Manager for Gaudi, Italia I juggle both roles to ensure the brand’s smooth operation. Many a times, I travel to Italy, where the brand’s HQ is situated, and I understand, research and study trends to match the fashion requirements of the Middle East market. I am glad that this role is extremely challenging and it always makes me strive harder.
What is your #1 personal principle/success mantra at work?
Success does not come easy. If life throws you a challenge, fight back hard. You might fail numerous times in achieving your ambition. But never let failure be an end as there is always light at the end of every tunnel.
In your workday, what is the one thing you cannot do without?
My workstation in my office is definitely something I cannot do without. It has all the essentials that help me plan my everyday activities to achieve my goals.
What is your favourite place for a business lunch?
I usually don’t do business lunches as I am too occupied in the everyday grind. The retail business is pretty dynamic and time consuming. But if I do step out for lunch, it’s got to be a quick bite in a chic café like Paul, which is my favourite.
Who’s your role model as the perfect professional?
My role model would be my boss, David Reilly (CEO of RSH Middle East LLC) He is always high on energy, a perfect visionary with a ‘go get it ‘ attitude. He also has a great sense of humour.
What’s your idea of switching off? And what’s your idea of an ideal weekend?
I never go into switch-off mode. The duty of a mother begins after work. I have two beautiful children and they take up most of my time. My ideal weekend would be spending quality time with my family and friends. We make it interactive for all by planning activities that can be fun for the kids and grown-ups alike — board games, picnics and beach trips.
What is the last thing you (usually) do before you go to sleep?
I can never end the day without reflecting on the events of the day and how I could have improvised on them. Additionally, I create two sets of ‘things-to-do lists’ every night before hitting the bed. The primary one lists down things to be accomplished at work, and the other focuses on family and kids.
