Faiza Rangoonwala is one of Dubai's true style icons. She moved here from Karachi a decade ago and whether in Harper's Bazaar or Masala, no best-dressed list is complete without her. This petite fashion girl has a style that is contemporary, chic and always full of chutzpah.
Back at home she was a well-known interior designer and though she did try her hand at bespoke furniture, she found that it was fashion that Dubai wanted from her.
"People used to ask me to for style tips and some even asked me to shop for them."
So, Faiza decided to focus on fashion and started L'Edit, where through a series of trunk shows, she would bring the best of Pakistan's fashion to Dubai. Now in her second year, this week will see her host her fifth trunk show. She works with the best designers from Pakistan, be it Shamaeel Ansari (the former chairperson of Pakistan Fashion Council who recently celebrated 25 years in the industry), Misha Lakhani, who has become the new it girl designer of Pakistan and Farah Talib. All will be participating at the L'Edit pop up. According to Faiza, Pakistan fashion combines the best of fine workmanship with experimental silhouettes. Pakistani designers also have a penchant for a muted colour palette and have a very romantic take on fashion.
"I like pieces that can be worn in three different ways. You can wear the same kurta with a belt and trousers to a religious ceremony, as you can to the beach as a kaftan."
Also, look out for Rema Luxe. This label's fun and fashionable costume jewellery is all about making a statement.
This year even Faiza admits there are an "insane" amount of pop-ups and trunks shows in Dubai, but keeping things carefully curated, ensures that her trunk shows are a cut above the rest.
L'Edit will take place on October 6 - 7 from 11am - 7pm at The Urbanist at BOXPARK.
