Defending Anthem under Ahmed Ajtebi started public favourite but was far from convincing. He finished less than four lengths off the pace sixth just behind Godolphin raider Cavalryman under Frankie Dettori.

Ajtebi said: “This horse has been away from the track for quite a long time, but he did nothing wrong since he needed the race.”
