A device that can monitor irregular heartbeat to help curb heart diseases before they occur has been launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) at Arab Health.
The device weighs only 8g, making it easy for patients with heart problems to carry it around and check the results through its associated smart app, which can be even installed on smartwatches, said Youssif Al Serkal, assistant undersecretary for the ministry's hospitals sector.
Powered by artificial intelligence, the first-of-its-kind ultra-light device in the Middle East measures the electrical signals of the heart, officials explained.
While it still cannot replace the traditional methods and systems for heart planning and monitoring, it can nip complex heart problems in the bud, they added.
Commenting on its integration with ambulance services, Dr Kalthoum Al Baloushi, director of Mohap's hospitals administration, said: "Through this device, patients will feel more comfortable as they can monitor the irregular heartbeat through their smartphones and dispatch information recorded to their clinicians for evaluation."
