Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licensing at the Ministry of Health, stated that the ministry noticed the use of herbal and other products including weight loss coffee among public for slimming. The ministry has already sent a circular to all the medical districts, directors of public and private hospitals as well as private clinics recommending not using such botanical slimming products as they contain chemical substances that are not stated on the label of the product.
“The product is not registered with the Pharmaceutical Registration and Control Department of the ministry,” he said.
Additionally, the FDA had issued a warning against the use of Meizitang capsules as sibutramine may cause hypertension and increase heart beat rates.
