The song, in English, was aired by a Hindi FM radio channel in Beijing and became an instant hit with the channel's listeners, so much so that other radio channels, too, picked it up.
Six months after recording the song, Raman, 28, arrived in Dubai and is currently employed as assistant miller at Al Ghurair Foods in Jebel Ali.
When contacted, a thrilled Raman said, 'I never expected the song to be aired in China and people liked my voice.'
'Some of the journalists, who are in Beijing to cover the Olympics, told me about my song becoming popular in China. It was exciting. I never thought that Chinese people would like my song,' said Raman.
'Prof. M.C. Vasisht of Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode, wrote the lyrics and handed over to his student, Sai Giridhar, who composed the music. Giridhar insisted that I sing the song, which I did, after initial reluctance,' said Raman.
'The song recorded in a studio in Kerala was not for commercial purposes,' he pointed out.
Prof Vasisht took the initiative to present the CD to the Chinese embassy in New Delhi, India.
'We did not hear from the embassy. But it came as a surprise that the song had become popular in China,' said Raman.
