The UAE has been ranked first regionally and 8th globally in the UN's 2020 Online Services Index (OSI), according to an e-government survey conducted by the United Nations.
The country was also ranked fourth in Asia in this index and has improved one place in the E-Participation Index as it achieved 16th place, after it was in 17th position in the 2018 index.
The e-government survey compares smart services in 193 countries worldwide and supports their efforts to provide effective, accountable and inclusive digital services to all, bridge the digital divide and leave nobody behind.
The UAE's success was championed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
"The future belongs to those who excel digitally," Sheikh Mohammed said on his Twitter account.
He added: "The United Nations e-government report comparing smart services in 193 countries was issued a short while ago. Proudly, the UAE is first in the Arab world West Asia and eighth globally in the index of smart and digital services."
The 2020 United Nations E-Government Survey was prepared by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) over a two-year period from July 2018 to June 2020.
