Abu Dhabi will host the 46th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, this Friday (March 1).
The agenda will include a number of political, social, and economic topics, along with challenges facing the Muslim world.
The session's agenda, which is held under the theme '50 years of Islamic cooperation: Road map for prosperity and development', includes the follow-up of aspects of economic coordination that will push the level of cooperation and raise it towards new horizons.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will inaugurate the meeting on March 1, 2019, in the presence of Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, the OIC Secretary-General, with the participation of 56 member states and five observer states, as well as India as the guest of honour.
India accepted the invitation with the External Affairs Minister attending the Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as 'Guest of Honour' to attend the Inaugural Plenary.
A statement issued on Saturday said that EAM Sushma Swaraj has been invited by Sheikh Abdullah as the "Guest of Honour" to address the Inaugural Plenary:
'We see this invitation as the desire of the enlightened leadership of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateral ties and forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateral and international level. We see this invitation as a milestone in our comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE. We also see this invitation as a welcome recognition of the presence of 185 million Muslims in India and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and of India's contribution to the Islamic world. The UAE welcomes this large number of participating countries and looks forward to a fruitful constructive dialogue for the establishment of cooperation programmes that advance the interests of the OIC member states. It also looks forward to a conference that will strengthen the role of the organisation in strengthening the bonds of joint Islamic action.
India is, therefore, happy to accept the invitation to attend the Inaugural Plenary of the OIC meeting and we thank the leadership of the UAE for their invitation.'
