The telethon on local TV channels and media has been launched as per the directives of the President, His highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the commands of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and is being followed up by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and head of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

Shaikh Hamdan said on Friday that the campaign enables the UAE to offer help to our brothers and sisters in Yemen, and said the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had taught us to help the needy. We have to follow the same track that Shaikh Zayed had followed regarding giving and benevolence.
The donations are collected through a total of 167 collection points set up across the country by the UAE Red Crescent, the organiser of the campaign, in conjunction with the Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment.
The campaign is organised in coordination with the National Media Council along with the media establishments in the country. Based on reports, the most outstanding problem that Yemen is sustaining right now is the scarcity of clean water, shortage of food supplies and rise in unemployment which hit 40 per cent among the Yemeni youth, said Mansour Al Faiyadi, Director-General of the Social Welfare Fund in Yemen.
The RCA also receives contributions from philanthropists inside the country through the following bank accounts: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank A/C No: 20865607; Dubai Islamic Bank A/C No 5901-52055862003; Sharjah Islamic Bank A/C No 012-445518-0060 and Al Hilal Bank A/C No 069-6419000-02.
Both Etisalat and Du customers may give their donations over SMS through the numbers designated by the two telecommunication companies. Donations may also be given through the RCA’s link at Facebook and Twitter.
