In another clash, two goals by Ali Al Weihibi and Emerson powered Al Ain to an exciting 2-0 victory over hosts Al Nasr at Al Maktoum Stadium on Friday night. Al Weihibi headed home a perfect cross from Emerson in the 14th minute before the Brazilian star doubled the score-line at the half hour mark from the spot.
Both sides were reduced to ten men when UAE referee Mohammed Abdullah sent off Al Nasr’s newly signed Iranian defender Mohammed Nasrati after 27 minutes. Emerson himself who was cautioned as early as the sixth minute of the first half and sent off in the 66th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
Al Nasr’s International Romanian midfielder Rada Ionut who made his first UAE appearance was shown a yellow card in the ninth minute.
Korean star Lee Ho who was signed earlier in the season by Al Ain as Asian player for the AFC Champions League united with the squad to compensate for the absence of injured Chilean play maker Jorge Valdivia. Ho was also cautioned in the 77th, one minute after substituting Al Ain midfielder Abdullah Malullah.
However, Al Ain increased their tally to 27 points to stay in hunt for the title with 27 points six points off the pace behind front runners Al Jazira. Al Nasr dropped back to the tenth position with 12 points and need to improve to maintain their pro-league status.
Meanwhile, Al Wahda’s crucial away tie against Al Ahli has been rescheduled on the account of their playoff ACL away game against Syria’s Al Karama on Saturday.
The 13th round will kick off on Thursday. Emirates will host Al Nasr in Ras Al Khaimah and pace setters Al Jazira will entertain Al Dhafra at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. On Friday, Sharjah will host Bani Yas and Al Wasl line up against city rivals Al Shabab later in the evening. Al Ain clash against Al Ahli in Al Ain City on Saturday and Al Wahda return to the local scene with a home tie against Ajman less than an hour later.
