After being crowned as the winners of the UAE Championship by Yas Marina Circuit and Mubadala, the official sponsors of F1 in Schools UAE, Team Impulse, comprising six students from Dubai College and second place winners Zero.9, comp four 17-year-old UAE students, are on their way to Singapore to compete against 26 other teams from across the globe.
Each team raised their own sponsorship, designed, engineered and built downscaled F1 model cars that won them the right to compete in the F1 in Schools World Championships.
One of these teams will walk away with the Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Championship trophy, a visit to the F1 Paddock during the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix race, as well as Automotive and Motorsport Engineering scholarships to City University London.
Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit, said: “The F1 in Schools Challenge is an amazing opportunity for students between the ages of 9 and 19 to discover the world of motorsports and foster a greater appreciation for engineering, science and technology.
Yas Marina Circuit couldn’t be more proud of Team Impulse and Zero.9 for all their hard work, dedication and teamwork. We wish them the best of luck at the F1 in Schools World Championships in Singapore.”
The event, hosted by Singapore’s NPCC, will begin with World Finals day one on 21 September, have the World Finals day two on 22 September, followed by World Finals day three, Knockout racing competition on 23 September.
A panel of expert judges will then decide which team will hold the 2010 F1 in Schools World Champions crown.
The Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Championship trophy will be presented to the winning team at an elaborate awards celebration later that evening at NPCC’s hotel ballroom, which will be attended by a number of important dignitaries and invited guests from the Formula One world.
Cultivating cultural understanding and global awareness are important aspects of the F1 in Schools Challenge World Championships.
It is an opportunity where collaboration teams, such as the UAE/Australian team, Zero.9, have the chance to work together via online communication and draw upon one another’s range of knowledge and skills.
