As France reels from the terrorist attack on Friday that claimed at least 84 lives, stories of lucky survivors have begun to surface, including an Irish man who couldn't make it to Nice for Bastille Day celebrations - because his flight got delayed.
"We were due to arrive in Nice last night at around 9pm but there was a delay in Dublin and we didn't arrive in Nice until after 11pm, We had planned to go to the area where the attack happened to celebrate Bastille Day but we were delayed in Dublin. You could say that delay saved our lives." - Patrick Guiney from Dublin told Independent.ieDescribing the scene on arriving in Nice, Guiney said that there was a lot of confusion as all public transport from the airport to the city had stopped.
"First we heard a truck had driven through people and then it escalated that it was a terrorist attack. We were all in a state of shock."Passengers were sent to nearby hotels, and were asked to wait in the reception area as the hotels were booked and transport had stopped, the Irishman added.
