www.mymoneyskills.me has recorded most visits from the UAE and Saudi Arabia since its launch by Visa in the Middle East four months back.
The website provides information in both Arabic and English on topics such as planning a budget, preparing for the future, using a credit card wisely and spending responsibly.
Targeting people of all ages, the website also features FIFA World Cup™- themed Financial Football – a free, fast-paced, educational video game that tests players’ knowledge of financial management skills as they advance down field and try to score goals. The game was specifically launched for students, a majority who have been found to know little about money matters.
There are 13 different budget calculators on the site that help visitors save for occasions and items like a car, holidays, retirement or putting together a general savings plan.
The initiative is aimed at educating people in the best practices in financial management and to also strengthen consumer’s knowledge of personal finance.
The website aims to inform 20 million people globally by May 2013, with Visa already achieving half its goal since its launch.
Lama Kabbani, Corporate Communications Manager for Visa in the Middle East, said the response to the website underscores the appetite in the region for information and guidance to manage finances.
“Given the prevailing economic challenges of the last eighteen months, the need for consumers to have a basic understanding of finance has never been more important. The website is a key component of our financial literacy effort in the Middle East.”
The Visa Facebook page has been developed to engage netizens in discussions on financial issues of the day providing them a chance to win prizes in the process as well.
