Following the success of universities and branch campuses in the education free zones, universities like BITS Pilani, Heriot-Watt and Manipal have moved to their own purpose-built campuses in Dubai International Academic City.
The latest to join this club will be the Amity University, which is looking to build its own campus in Dubai by 2015.
University officials are exploring the opportunity of building a campus as Amity completes its first year of operations this year.
The university founder Dr Ashok Chauhan was recently in Dubai to meet prospective students at an education show.
Speaking with Khaleej Times, he said: “My vision is to make Amity a hub for educational research which globally connects young minds. Philanthropy and education are key pillars, which will take the world to new heights.”
Dubai is a part of Amtiy’s growing network of international campuses as plans are underway to open new campuses in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina and other countries in central Asia.
The campus in Dubai opened last year with more than 100 students in the first batch. Faculty at the campus contribute to research initiatives with more than 15 UAE-centric case studies produced in the first year itself.
Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University said, “Research is at the core of what we do and we have started research work in our Dubai campus. We want to contribute to the development of the UAE economy and support the research needs of organisations and academic institutions.”
Back at the university’s home campus in Noida, plans are underway to set up a Chinese language institute to help Indian students learn Mandarin. Flourishing relations between India and China are providing universities with a chance to collaborate on a global level to support trade and economic relations.
