More than 1,000 students in Abu Dhabi have applied for government scholarships to further their education in the country and abroad, education regulators in Abu Dhabi said.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) had opened applications for its Talented Students Scholarship Programme in March for the 2017-18 academic year. Emirati students studying in Grade 12 and wishing to pursue their university education in the UAE or abroad have applied for the scholarships.
Applicants must have achieved an average of 85 per cent at least in the General Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent, while university undergraduates must obtain a minimum GPA of 3.0, with 30 credit hours in a university/ disciplines.
The programme offers scholarships for students in four majors - medicine, health sciences, engineering, management and economics - including 17 specialties. These are medicine, engineering (chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, and nuclear), in addition to mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, fin-ance, statistics and accounting, astronomy, biotechnology and genetics. The scholarship covers tuition, a monthly stipend, added incentives for high achievers, plus travel arrangements, return tickets, housing allowance, textbooks, and health insurance. It also helps provide job opportunities for students after graduation.
