The new e-service launched by the Ministry of Human Rwesources and Emiratisation for work training applicants, perfectly suits the needs of the audience it is intended for - 12 to 17-year-olds.
This tech-savvy generation can now apply to partake in workplace training using the ministry's free electronic form and mobile phone application.
This is the first-of-its-kind training programme for students, with each programme lasting three months.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dr Sanaa Ashour, assistant professor at Al Khawarizmi International College Abu Dhabi, said it will better equip students for the working world.
"I believe this is a great initiative that will help students get acquainted with the work environment and job requirements before they join higher education."
Introduced by the government on July 14, the training programme, according to Dr Ashour, aims to give students the twenty-first century skills-set they need to "boost their employability".
As the author of a recent report on the quality of higher education in the UAE (which was published in the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management), she said it will also better prepare students for university life.
"They can demonstrate that they are proactive and serious about their future, further enabling them to succeed in their university education."
The programmes are offered to students aged 12 to 17 years, and the "hands-on experience" will help them discover their areas of interest, before joining a university.
Another plus side is the fact that individuals can make an informed decision about their college and career plans before committing to a university, or particular field of study, Dr Ashour said.
"Future employers are looking for professional exposure and experience. Students who will benefit from this training will be prepared to refine their career goals and build a professional network that help them secure a job in the future."
