Three men allegedly robbed Dh135,481 worth of company workers' wages after stabbing a man with a knife, the Court of First Instance was told on Tuesday.
The trio, including a 21-year-old Afghani porter and two Pakistanis (jobless, 28 and a visitor, 32) pleaded not guilty in court to charges of forcible robbery and physical assault leading to permanent injury.
The incident was reported on September 15, last year, to Al Qusais police station.
The 34-year-old Indian clerk, from whom the money was robbed, said it was around 11 am when he walked out of a bank in Al Qusais after collecting Dh135,481 which belonged to the general trading company where he worked.
"I kept the money, which was the company workers' salaries, in an envelope. The moment I exited the bank's gate I was surprised by a man running behind me and snatching the envelope from my hand," he told the investigators.
"I tried to chase him but he attacked me with a knife. He stabbed me several times and ran away. I could not chase him any further because of my injury".
A 28-year-old Indian businessman said he was driving his car when he spotted a man bleeding on the street. He stopped and checked what happened to him before calling for help.
The police apprehended the men involved in the robbery in their place in Sharjah. The knife used in the stabbing was seized from a vehicle. They admitted during the interrogation they had planned to target bank customers out of the desperate need for money. They split the roles among each other. One of them watched and then gave a signal to the others to target a particular customer. One of them snatched the envelope from the victim's hand and was assisted by his accomplice in attacking him with a knife. They later split the cash.
The trial resumes on December 6.
