A husband had reported his wife to authorities after suspecting her of cheating on him, a court has heard.
The Abu Dhabi Appeal Court was on Tuesday told that the Egyptian man filed a complaint with the police against his wife and her lover after he found out their love affair.
The husband told authorities that he learned about his wife being in love with another man after seeing many love messages that had been exchanged between them on WhatsApp.
The man had captured screen shots of the conversation between his wife and her lover and presented them to cops as evidence when he lodged his complaint against the pair.
Official court records stated that police summoned the Syrian man for reportedly cheating on the wife of the Egyptian after seeing their message conversations.
The man admitted to communicating with the Egyptian woman on WhatsApp stressing that he wanted to marry her.
"I met her on social media and we started chatting. She didn't tell me she was married and I hadn't met her yet," said the Syrian man.
"I had fallen in love with her through our conversations and I was intending to marry her."
The man also said he did not know that the woman was married until after the police summoned him.
Prosecutors charged the pair man with exchanging love messages with a married woman. The woman was also charged with exchanging love messages with another man when she was already married.
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance had earlier fined each of them Dh5,000 fine and ordered for their deportation.
But the pair challenged the sentences to the Appeal Court.
The trial was adjourned to a future date for the ruling.
