An expat, who was convicted of promoting prostitution by sending pictures of women to various men via WhatsApp and arranging for them appointments for sex, will spend two years in jail.
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld an earlier ruling by the appeal court which handed the jail sentence to the Asian man after he was found guilty of engaging in flesh trade.
Official court documents stated that the defendant tricked various women into prostitution and later sent their photographs to male clients. After the customers chose from those pictures and settled the deal, the man arranged meetings at hotels and other places where his clients had sex with the women.
During his interrogation at police and public prosecution, the man had confessed that he sent 10 pictures of four young women to various men through WhatApp.
Prosecutors had charged the Asian with luring women into prostitution, exploiting them and engaging in prostitution activities.
He denied the charges when he appeared in court. The man claimed that he wasn't sure what he was being questioned and responding to during his police interrogation because he didn't have an interpreter.
But prosecutors refuted his claims stressing that the Asian man was very fluent in Arabic and understood everything. He also communicated to some of his male customers in Arabic, according to officials.
A prosecution witness told court that the man had once brought him two young women to choose from and then took one to a hotel after paying him cash.
The court of first instance had sentenced him to three years in jail after finding him guilty on all counts and also ordered for his deportation. The jail sentence was, however, cut to two years on appeal.
The man challenged the sentence in UAE's top court which rejected his appeal and maintained earlier rulings based on the prosecutors' evidence.
The Asian will be deported after serving his jail sentence.
