The 40-year-old man will be deported after serving his jail term as per the court’s order. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal.

He is believed to have dragged the Indian girl when she stepped off the bus into the stairway, where he kissed her on her cheek and touched her against her will.

The girl’s father, a businessman, told the prosecution that his wife told him by phone that their daughter was molested by a man in the building. The incident happened in January where the girl lived with her parents in Al Qusais.

The girl told her father in between sobs that a man, who worked in a tailoring shop in the same building, stopped her from taking the lift and dragged her by force to the stairs. There, he fondled her and touched her private part. She was crying and he told her not to tell anyone. The girl then ran away and told her elder sister.

The father took his girl down to the tailoring shop where she recognised the worker who had molested her.

A policeman said that they received a complaint about a molestation incident on that day.

He went to the building where he was told by the girl’s father that the defendant dragged his daughter, saying he would accompany her into her place. But he took her to the stairs where he abused her.

The officer arrested the defendant at the shop after the latter admitted that he molested the girl.

No injury marks were found on the girl’s private parts, according to the report of the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence.
