According to a police source, the gang was led by two Arab nationals, M.Y.M and F.S, residing in the country. The third suspect is the son of F.S and was deported to his home country.
The trio stole 10 cars of various brands and they smuggled them outside the country and particularly to the country where the deported suspect was living.
The suspects were using forged export papers purportedly of a neighbouring country to take the vehicles across the border.
The third suspect received the stolen cars in his country and sold them. His father would prepare the papers that are later handed over to M.Y.M who would smuggle the vehicles outside through one of the UAE ports.
The gang’s activities came to light when a person lodged a complaint with the Industrial Area police station that a Toyota Camry car belonging to his company was stolen after he parked it in front of a shop. The car was stolen though all its doors were centrally locked.
“A security team was immediately formed by the Criminal Investigation Department. Subsequent investigation showed that the car was exported to a neighbouring country with forged papers of that country. It was also found out that other nine cars were exported in the same way using forged export papers,” the officer said.
The police team tracked down M.Y.M who was arrested from another emirate. On being confronted with the evidence collected, he confessed to stealing many cars with the help of F.S, who resides in the UAE, and the latter’s deported son who received the cars.
Both F.S and M.Y.M are currently detained and will be referred to the public prosecution. The third suspect will he brought to the country through authorised channels. The Sharjah Police urged the owners to immediately report if their vehicles are missing by dialing the Najeed toll-free number 800151 or 999.
