A public relations officer is facing trial in the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court after being charged with forging an official document apparently issued by the federal electricity and water authority (Fewa).
As per court records, the case unfolded when the 27-year-old suspect, an Arab man, submitted a forged document to Fewa to have water supplied to the company he worked with.
A staff executive with Fewa discovered that the stamp colour on the water supply blueprint submitted by the defendant changed from blue to black.
He immediately cancelled the transaction and reported the forgery to the bodies concerned.
The defence lawyer told the court that the suspect did not mean to commit forgery. He could not help forging the document after losing the officially-approved paper or blueprint needed for supplying water to his company, he added.
He pointed out that a fraud, in law, is a deliberate deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain.
"This was not the case here as the official document needed has been found and submitted to the federal electricity and water authority which approved it."
The court, having heard the defence lawyer's pleading, ordered adjournment of the case to September 26 to pronounce judgment.
