The Asian illegal immigrant, who had been slapped with a deportation order twice — one in 2004 for absconding from his sponsor and then again in 2010 for entering the country unlawfully — was also ordered to be taken into police custody.
The investigation conducted by the Public Prosecution showed that the two accused were caught at the Al Hili border checkpoint in Al Ain after customs officers suspected a car, driven by the GCC policeman, after he had crossed the border point coming from the Al Buraimi suburb of Oman.
The customs officers noticed that the driver was behaving and acting in a way that aroused their suspicions. On searching the car, the Asian man was found hiding in the boot.
Having undergone an eye scan, officers became aware that the Asian suspect had been deported from the country twice before.
Before the prosecution, the two accused confessed to the charge raised against them.
The illegal immigrant claimed he had paid Dh500 to a compatriot, to act as a middleman between him and the prime accused (the policeman), so the latter could facilitate his entry to the country through the Al Hili (UAE) — Al Buraimi (Oman) border checkpoint.
The Asian accused claimed that he was planning to buy some goods and drive back to Al Buraimi, while the prime accused confessed that he tried to help an infiltrator into the country.
