M.T.H. was charged with plagiarising a comedy play, written by Y.M.K., without obtaining a written consent from its author, in breach of the intellectual Property Rights and Copy Right Law.
According to court records, Y.M.K had attested his written collection of works at the Ministry of Economy’s Intellectual Property Protection Department. During one of his trips abroad, he learnt that one of his plays was being staged at Khorfakkan Theatre without his consent.
The author reported the matter to the Ministry of Economy, which then filed a lawsuit at the Fujairah Prosecution. After investigation, the case here was referred to the Khorfakkan Public Prosecution as it was within its jurisdiction.
Since the defendant failed to attend the hearings, the court found M.T.H guilty of the charge. news@khaleejtimes.com
