A man on a visit visa, serving life term for murder conviction, had his sentence upheld by the Dubai Court of Appeals on Sunday.
Dubai public prosecution accused the 54-year-old Chinese man of killing the victim, of the same nationality, during a brawl at a prostitution den.
The Court of First Instance had convicted him of a murder charge and ordered his deportation.
He lost his appeal against the conviction ruling and the deportation order after the Dubai Appellate Court upheld the primary decision.
The incident took place on June 27 last year when the defendant fatally stabbed the victim during a fight. It was reported at Naif police station.
During investigation, the convict claimed he was acting in self-defence after the victim "initiated attack on him with a broken glass".
Seven other accomplices, all Chinese, lost their appeals too. Five women were each again awarded a five-year imprisonment term for the charges of failing to report the crime and working in prostitution.
Two men charged with failing to report a crime to the authorities concerned, hiding a corpse, and running a flat as a prostitution den, had also their jail terms of five years and one year respectively upheld by the court.
The defendants, who were all ordered deported, have the right to challenge the conviction ruling at the Dubai Court of Cassation within 30 days.
