A man denied in court having forged copies of his brother's passport and driving licence to rent a 4WD in his name. The 28-year-old Emirati is believed to have posted his own photo on his brother's documents and then used the forged copies to rent a car.
He denied the forgery charge in the Court of First Instance, including faking his brother's signature on the rental contract. He is believed to have failed to pay Dh36,900 worth of rental charges.
The case dates back to November 26 last year. It was reported in February to Al Rashidiyah police.
"He visited our car rental office in the International City around 10pm. He submitted copies of a passport and a driving license and signed a contract," said a Pakistani employee at the office.
When the accused failed to pay the dues, the office employee complained against him.
"The man who was summoned to the police station was not the same person who took the car. It turned out that he forged copies of his brother's documents," the employee told the prosecutor.
A police lieutenant quoted the accused as admitting to have rented the car after forging the said documents.
