An Emirati man assaulted his brother and threatened his siblings, saying he would burn their deceased father's house if they failed to give him his share of inheritance, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard on Monday.
The 45-year-old man assaulted his 28-year-old brother with a knife and caused him injuries after a heated argument over their share of the house they inherited from their father. The defendant was charged with assault, issuing threats and consuming drugs.
According to court records, the siblings gathered at their deceased father's house in Barsha in October to discuss their share of inheritance. An argument broke out between them, after which the defendant allegedly "tried to assault" his sister. However, their brother intervened and pushed him away.
The defendant's brother told prosecutors that the accused went to the kitchen and grabbed a small knife to assault them. "I used a wooden stick to keep him away from us, but he dodged it and tried to stab me. I pinned him down and got injured in the process," the brother said.
