His Syrian friend, identified as BM, who works as a clerk, was cleared of helping and abetting MT by driving the car and raising the volume of the radio so that no one would hear the woman screaming. Both are 24 years old. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal.
The incident according to the Japanese victim who is an air hostess, happened when the duo stopped the car as she was waiting for a cab outside her building in Al Nahda 1, in Al Qusais at about 1.30am in September last year.
The car was driven by MT, and he was accompanied by BM.
MT offered to drop her off at the airport as she was wearing her uniform. But she did not accept his offer. However, she agreed after MT stepped out and carried her baggage and asked her to get in.
When the car stopped at a traffic signal, the two men exchanged their seats. MT then moved to the rear seat and began kissing the woman inspite of her trying to resist him. He then tried to undress her. When she started screaming BM increased the volume of the radio. MT then asked the woman for money, but she refused and he dropped her off.
