Five Asian men have stood trial at the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court for allegedly smashing the windscreen of a parked car and stealing a pair of earpods and a smartphone charger.
Shocked to find his car's windscreen totally smashed, the complainant first thought it could have randomly shattered or a kid might have thrown a stone at it. However, he later discovered that the earpods and charger he left in the car were missing, court records showed.
He then reported the incident to the Fujairah Police, which immediately initiated an investigation, tracked down the suspects, and arrested them.
The group was referred to the Fujairah Public Prosecution and then to the misdemeanour court, where the first defendant denied the charges.
"I was only walking with my friends and had nothing to do with the robbery," he told the court.
The second accused, however, admitted to the crime.
"I noticed the earpod and charger in the parked car and decided to steal them with the help of my four friends (defendants)."
He also confirmed that they did smash the car's windscreen to get the items.
"We also hoped to find some cash or other valuable items, but found nothing else."
All five men were detained.
The trial was adjourned until next week.
