Dubai - The Dubai Educational Zone has ordered a fresh probe into the student-teacher brawl caught on camera, which went viral on social media. The video clip of the fighting between an English teacher and his student has “surprised” the education authorities in Dubai.
The director of the Dubai Educational Zone has confirmed that it has sought a detailed report on the incident from the school authorities, which will be presented to its legal affairs division to determine the next course of action. Representatives from the UAE Ministry of Education and Dubai Educational Zone were dispatched to the school and the investigation found both parties were at fault.
In the video, a few students were seen getting out of the class as one of the students roughed up with the English teacher near the door of the classroom. The incident reportedly took place in Al Sharawi Secondary School.
The director further explained that they were also studying the immediate action taken by the school to address the situation — how both the student and the teacher were treated after the event.
The Dubai Educational Zone wanted to make sure that the integrity of legal procedures along with the set guidelines and protocol measures were properly followed and all those who were involved in the incident were treated in accordance and compliance with the law.
According to officials from the Ministry of Education, the school administration has taken action against both parties based on initial findings that both sides committed mistakes that had aggravated the situation.
In a meeting with both parties, and in the presence of the parents of the students, the school laid down its sanctions —one week suspension for the student and a warning to the teacher.
The student and the teacher were also asked to sign a waiver stating that no such incident would happen again in the school campus. -muaz@khaleejtimes.com
