The man filed a lawsuit before the Abu Dhabi Civil Court of First Instance and claimed that on one occasion, the mishap resulted in him missing out on the chance to register with a university.
The traveller claimed that he had put his academic papers and certificates required for enrollment at the university (based in an Arab country) in one of his bags which he lost on his second trip with the defendant (airline), along with other valuables.
Further, the complainant demanded the airline refund the cost of/or post-date an earlier ticket he failed to avail of because of his wife’s health condition.
The plaintiff also asked the airline to compensate him with an additional air ticket so he could return to the Arab country to enroll at the university that he was unable to register with before, due to the lost luggage mishap.
In his plea, the plaintiff explained that on one occasion he was traveling via the airline heading to an East Asian country. Upon arrival, the passenger could not find his suitcase that contained expensive items. He reported the missing luggage to the airline and asked for proper compensation, but he’s pleas went unanswered.
On the occasion where the man lost his luggage containing his academic certificates, the airline company promised to bring back the plaintiff’s bag the following day, but the plaintiff was left waiting for ten days. He claimed this caused him emotional and financial damage as he had paid for the flights and transport in vain, and had to buy other personal items to compensate for the belongings he had lost along with his luggage.
In the second incident, the plaintiff bought air tickets for him and his spouse to a European country. A week later, he discovered that his wife had conceived, and the doctors said she could not travel by air because of her health condition. He then approached the airline to get a refund of the air tickets or change the travel date to a future time, but the airline rejected his petition which had caused him to lose the cost of the two air tickets which amounted to Dh8,000.
The traveller sought the help of the court to get compensation.
