The family of a 38-year-old Sri Lankan housemaid, killed by her 34-year-old boyfriend, accepted blood money and waived their right to seek death penalty for the accused during the trial at Sharjah Criminal Court.
The case has been adjourned to middle of April.
It dates back to April 14, 2018 when the man stabbed his girlfriend to death during a heated argument in her apartment in Sharjah. The accused went out to look for a taxi to rush the victim to the hospital, but in vain. He left the woman in her apartment and tried to flee. However, the police caught up with him.
During the trial, the defendant said that he had known the victim for three years and they loved each other and decided to get married. He said that on the day of the incident, his girlfriend told him that she was doing a part time cleaning job in a house.
Later, the victim's friend told the accused that his girlfriend had lied to him and that she went to a brothel run by an Asian woman in Rolla.
The defendant denied the charge of premeditated murder, stating that he stabbed her on the spur of the moment as he felt she had betrayed him.
