An Asian translator has gone on trial for blackmailing a businessman with his 'drunk' voice notes.
The Dubai Public Prosecution has referred an Asian translator to the criminal court over accusations that he blackmailed a GCC businessman with voice notes that the latter had emailed him while under the influence of alcohol.
During investigation, the complainant told prosecution that he had trusted the defendant with the translation of his messages between him and other investors. But, suddenly, the defendant asked him for Dh5 million if he didn't want him to leak the voice notes to the investors.
'At the beginning, he (translator) said he had them on WhatsApp, and then he sent an email asking for the money, which made the complainant file a case against him.
