The general department of anti-narcotics of the Dubai Police received 287 calls on its toll free number during the last 8 months, a top official has said. On an average, the department received one call per day, he added.
Col. Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police, said that the toll-free number for 800 400 400 is one of the most important tool by the anti-narcotics department in communicating with the public to make them aware of harmful effects of drugs and to respond to the various inquiries.
Col Thani Hareb praised the public for their cooperation and contributing to save many young people fall prey to drug dealers and abusers.
The public confidence in the toll free number motivates us to continue providing our services to the public in a better way, he said.
"The figure reflects that the public are our collaborators to make Dubai a drug-free place and ensure safety for all."
Explaining the diversity of calls, Col Thani Hareb said that majority of the calls are made by parents who seek help in the treatment of their children who are addicted to drugs.
In accordance with Article 43 of Federal Law, when an addict approaches police for help, we take care of him, give medical care, and also exempt the person from punishment.
He added that the anti-narcotics department not only focuses on arrest of criminals, but extends its activities to raise awareness among the public.
The toll-free number offers a variety of services to parents, as the government pays attention to members of the community to help them avoid visiting police stations. The dedicated toll free number also help residents disclose their personal information and their data without much embarrassment to the police. However, basic information is essential to deal with the case, Col Thani Hareb added.
