A 36-year-old expat was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for raping his girlfriend at his flat while drunk.
Dubai prosecutors accused the Jordanian man of raping the Moroccan victim on July 28 while he was heavily intoxicated. The incident was reported at Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a 37-year-old working as an assistant sales executive at a mall, said during the public prosecution investigation she had met the defendant at the shop. "He proposed to me and I agreed. We had been on and off because of his drinking habits until he contacted me again on WhatsApp. Around 1:30am on July 28, he picked me up from my place. I thought he would take me for dinner at a restaurant. But he took me instead to his flat in Al Warsan where I found he had made dinner."
She told the investigator that he had alcoholic drinks until he got drunk. She kept resisting his sexual advances until 6:00am. She could not leave as he would not let her. She claimed that he slapped her on the face and beat her up.
He dropped her at her workplace in the afternoon after trying to calm her down. She complained against him after returning home.
According to the forensic report, no DNA traces could be found on the woman's body. She was found to have bruises following the complaint and her examination indicated she had been subjected to a recent sexual assault.
During the public prosecution investigation, the defendant admitted he had sex with the complainant.
He will be sentenced on October 30.
